What does Krautrock mean in the 21 Century ?
Wikipedia refers to the late Krautrock: ”Typical bands dubbed “krautrock” in the 1970s including Klaus Schulze, Faust, Amon Düül II, Ash Ra Tempel and others associated with the celebrated Cologne-based producers and engineers Dieter Dierks and Conny Plank, such as Neu!, Kraftwerk and Cluster.”
Spyra is a German musician and producer from Berlin, who did numerous records in more than a decade, including releases with Dr. Alex Paterson, Hyperium Records, Fax Records and Manikin Records.
His annotation of post-eletronic, is a well tempered mix of krautrock infused sequences - accompanied by modern melody structures of neo-classic.
‘Staub’ is not a memory of what Spyra has accomplished in the past, it is presenting a modern way of live electronic elements with modern rhythms, his indeterminate future.
From the first track, he gradually builds something epic and unexpected towards the finish line.
The centrepieces on his new album are ‘Staub’ and ‘Flur’. Two unequal brothers based on the same need - to find his way back reliving a live atmosphere. All pieces on ‘Staub’ have been recorded in live performances - in the middle of the night. Rather than being a slave to the machine, he seems to just let go, without a safety net nor a double bottom.
Spyra is reinventing himself with his new record and currently, there are almost no notable German producers creating such brilliantly odd pieces of music.
Butterfly Collectors will release “Staub” in association with Indigo Distribution on October 24, 2014.
